Ex Sergeant Major Gordon Emin, 44, died on October 11, 2015 in a helicopter crash in Kabul Afghanistan, which also took the lives of four other Resolute Support members. He served in the French Foreign Legion for 15 years and then pursued a new career as a Security Officer as well as Administrations Manager for THALES & CISAF in Afghanistan from 2013 onwards. He is survived by his wife Raluca, and two young daughters Alexandra and Andrea. The 5 rounds are in honour of the 5 lives that were killed in the helicopter crash. 15 Deadlifts and 15ft rope climb represents the number of years Gordon served in the French Foreign Legion. Daniel Danao, a coach in unaffiliated gym in Afghanistan called NoKabull, created this Hero WOD in Gordon's memory. At one point during Gordon’s career, he and Daniel were together in the same Regiment; it was typical that they would perform rope climbs and pull-ups after a morning run with the unit for the Legionnaires. Therefore, the combination of rope climbs, running, pull-ups, and deadlifts would represent "Gordon’s significant life period spent in the Legion with his brothers in arms." The 20 DB snatches and 15 pull-ups represent the year the helicopter crashed in 2015. When Gordon joined Daniel's team with THALES in Afghanistan in 2013, "he quickly became a key figure demonstrated through his kindness, good humour, involvement in athletics and always present for helping out everyone."
